The Literacy Team at Resources in Reading has developed a wide range of professional
development topics for teachers and principals. All topics are:
- based on current research and best practices.
- can be addressed through workshops, demonstration lessons,
consultation services, and coaching.
- are tailored to individual school and school district needs
in terms of grade levels, subject areas, student needs, and local and state assessment requirements.
- can be as brief as a two hour after school presentation or as
comprehensive as a fifteen hour workshop distributed over various time blocks.
All workshops include:

- handbook containing reproducible teacher & student resources

Phonological Awareness *
Provides information on how to informally assess and develop a reader's ability to hear the discrete
sounds in our language to improve decoding, comprehension, spelling, and writing.
Phonics *
Provides information on how to informally assess and develop a reader's ability to use the
sound/print generalizations to decode, build sight vocabulary, and comprehend text.
Fluency *
Provides information on how to informally assess and develop a reader's ability to read rapidly
and accurately, use phrasing, intonation, and punctuation to improve comprehension.
Comprehension *
Provides information on how to informally assess and develop a reader's ability to apply effective
comprehension strategies before, during, and after reading to improve comprehension of both narrative
and expository text.
Vocabulary *
Provides information on how to informally assess and develop a reader's ability to acquire vocabulary
and effectively use a variety of vocabulary building strategies.
